Hi,
Is there any way that the parameters passed from the URL is not shown to the users. Making the "Prompt User" unchecked and passing the parameter through the URL gave some error. Is there a work around.

Hide Parameter with SP1
Installed SP1, still finding not possible to hide a parameter. Can someone provide the process please. The parameter is an ID that is send via URL to the report server. I created a Report Parameter for it, then created a queary parameter setting that to the incoming value of the Report Parameter. But hiding a parameter disallow you to pass any value to this parameter
through the URL!!!
The parameter is not simply hide to the user, is also completly inaccessible
to the user through any URL, but just available to the administrator to
change the default value of the parameter.

Is that right?

I have some stored proceures that receive some parameters and output some
querys. I dont want the user to select parameters because I need to gice
those parameters via query string from My Applications
How can I achieve tha?

Hide parameter for some users
I'm trying to decide whether I can use sql reports for my application, and
the main problem I've run into thus far is that my available parameters need
to change based on the user who is running the report. For instance,
low-level users should only be able to see data about themselves, whereas
managers should be able to select from a drop-down list of all users. Is
there any way to set the user prompt/visibility for a parameter based on the
role of the person running the report?The easiest way I can think of to manage this is to have two versions of the
same report. With the regular version, pass =User!UserID into the query
parameter. In the manager's version, populate the same parameter from a
drop-down list. Then set different permissions when you deploy the reports.
If you need to do it in a single report, you might be able to write some
custom code to pass in flags to the query and work out the difference
between managers and employees in your data source query.

My Reports feature. Linked reports are effectively shortcuts to a
report.
But, the nice touch is that you can set the parameters to behave a bit
differently, for instance there is a prompt user check box on each
parameter in the linked reports properties. This doesn't affect the
original report. If you update the original, the linked report will
reflect these changes too. Security can be set completely independantly
too.

I want to reference from one reports to another and I don't want my users to
see the parameters used. In case of a url-reference I can use the
rc:parameters = false to disable the parameter field in the viewer.
How can I reach the very same behaviour when I reference from one report to
another (navigation) ?

Thanks.You could always call the report from a URL and NOT show the parameter
bar... and in SP1 you may hide individual parameters.

From the SP1 readme:

Hide Dropdown parameter values based on User
I need to hide dropdown parameter values based on UserId. Any help with
User!UserId and custom code will be helpful. This is a Non-queried dropdown
and not based on query/dataset.

you didnt mention if it is not there, then do what ? means whether you want
emtpy or with one value or it should not show the drop down instead it should
run the report directly with some default values.
A round about way is to have a plain menu sort of report where you have two
options, I mean here is that when ever user clicks the reports, a screen will
be there with menu options like two hyperlinks (can be done using action)
before that you need to create a copy of the report, so you have now two
same reports one with drop down and the other without drop down.
Now depending on the user you can select or hide the textbox itself so the
user will be left with selecting one option.
If you dont understand I will put it in other words.
Before your two reports (one with dropdown and the other without dropdown)
one plain just hyperlink report will be there, where in user will select
the link to go to the respective reports.

you can pass user id and get the filtered records depending on the user. But
you need to have queried drop down only. Otherwise it is not possible on a
non queried.

I need an expression that hides a column based on the report parameter.
So, I add the following expression to column Visibility property:
=IIF(Parameters!active.Value = "Current", True, False)
Which gives me the following expression error:
"Input string was not in the correct format"
Any help is appreciated, I've already searched through previous newgroups
entries/bol with no luck.

Here is an example. Select a cell in the matrix in Layout view, open
the 'Properties' window and in Appearance -> Visibility -> Hidden,
select '<Expression...>' from the drop down menu and enter something
like:
=iif(Parameters!SomeParameterName.Value = "TargetValue", true, false)

I am using reporting services 2005. (sql server 2005 Sp2).
I have two parameters on the reports. Both parameter are not related to each other.
If user selects first parameter value I want to Hide or Disable second parameter drop down.

You could simply not use the 2nd parameter in the report
and have a text with "2nd parameter will not be used if 1st parameter is used"
|||You can't do that, but what you can do is make the default value and even the *contents* of the second parameter dependant on what is selected in the first parameter. Hidden vs. Internal Parameters -- Got to be a better way...
We have an application that gets a report's parameters and parameter values.
We're using SQL Server 2005. The problem is that we need a couple of the
report's parameters to be non-prompting AND not read-only.
In our application, we dynamically build the UI based on the parameters and
parameter values retrieved from the report, but we only want to display
parameters that are PromptUser = true and not hidden and not read-only.

be displayed are only different based on the prompt. An internal's
promptuser will be false and there will be no prompt.
If you remember in RS2000, you had to go into the Report Server
Interface and set the parameters promptuser to true and clear out the
prompt. Although a "hidden" indicator is now available in the IDE for
RS2005, the identification through the web service seems not to have
changed.
So, if you look for rp.promptuser && (rp.Prompt.Length > 0), you will
get the correct parameters to display in the UI. If you want to set
the hidden parameters, obmit the (rp.Prompt.Length > 0).

Question: In RS 2000, do hidden sub-reports get processed? I have a
report with several sub-reports, which get hidden or shown based on a
parameter. The report seems to take a long time to render, and the
pagination is off so it appears that the other hidden sub-reports are
being processed but not shown.
Does anybody know for sure if this is true? If it is true, is there a
work-around other than breaking it up into separate reports?

Hidden parameters error (SP1)
I'm having problems with executing a report with a hidden parameter. For the
record, I've got SP1 installed.
I have a report with a date range that a user can modify:
From - defaults to previous business day
To - also defaults to previous business day
I also have a parameter called CurrentUserID (an integer) which is a user ID
that exists in a table called tblUser. I want this parameter to be hidden
from the user.
In Report Manager, I've gone into Properties, then Parameters, and set the
following for the CurrentUserID parameter:
Has Default - not ticked
Default Value - blank
Prompt User - ticked
Prompt String - blank
In the URL for the report, I add the following at the end:
&CurrentUserID=1083
where 1083 is a UserID I know should return some records in my test report.
However, I'm getting the following error:
This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report
parameter 'CurrentUserID'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must
provide a parameter value. (rsReportParameterValueNotSet)
I have tried the report again, this time with the CurrentUserID parameter
displayed, and entering the user ID 1083, and this time the report works
fine, so I know the stored procedure is not the problem.
Any suggestions to get this hidden parameter functionality to work would be
greatly appreciated.

launch reports. I need a way to be able to set a parameter from within the
application AND allow the developer to configure this setting so the report
can be deployed with no Report Manager configuration necessary. If I clear
the prompt from the report designer and deploy, the parameter then becomes
'read-only' and I cannot set it from code.
The only work around that I can find is to go in to Report Manager and turn
ON the Prompt User, then clear the Prompt text and then adapt for that in
code. This works fine except that it means I have to go to each of the 100
client's ReportManagers and configure this report this way. With 50 reports
with hidden parameters at 100 clients, that is just not possible.

reports (xml) when you change the settings in de report manager, and then
write a small program to make that change for your reports.

I've tried the suggestion to set a non-used default value. The report now
loads error-free, however, it comes back with no data even though I've added
&CurrentUserID=1083 to the end of the URL (1083 is a user ID that should
return 3 records).
I've added a text box onto the report to show what's in the CurrentUserID
parameter when I run the report with &CurrentUserID=1083 in the URL. However,
it keeps showing the -1 I've set as the default. It doesn't appear to notice
the fact that I want to override the -1 default with my own user ID.
Any ideas?

If I put my ID of 1083 in the default just to see if it works, my 3 records
come back fine. But when I put -1 as the default, and add the parameter to
the end of my URL (&CurrentUserID=1083), it doesn't.

I tried your suggested URL, but that always defaulted back to the Report
Manager Home page (http://sqldev/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx).
However, I then tried going through Report Server
(http://sqldev/Reportserver?%2fRAMSReports%2frptFilesSentForSettlementRM_UserTest&CurrentUserID=1083),
and hey presto - IT WORKED! - I get the 3 records I am expecting. The
CurrentUserID parameter is hidden, and my test text box I placed on the
report to check what was in CurrentUserID is now correctly showing my user ID
of 1083. I think that now I can work with this.

If I put my ID of 1083 in the default just to see if it works, my 3 records
come back fine. But when I put -1 as the default, and add the parameter to
the end of my URL (&CurrentUserID=1083), it doesn't.

I tried your suggested URL, but that always defaulted back to the Report
Manager Home page (http://sqldev/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx).
However, I then tried going through Report Server
(http://sqldev/Reportserver?%2fRAMSReports%2frptFilesSentForSettlementRM_UserTest&CurrentUserID=1083),
and hey presto - IT WORKED! - I get the 3 records I am expecting. The
CurrentUserID parameter is hidden, and my test text box I placed on the
report to check what was in CurrentUserID is now correctly showing my user ID
of 1083. I think that now I can work with this.
