We just build our first 2 nodes cluster on Windows 2003 / SQL2000 SP3a + HF
818.
Does anybody knows if there is any other HF need to be applied on Windows or
SQL running cluster services before we go live?
Thanks
Ayad
That depends on whether you are experiencing any problems that are covered
by a later hotfix. I generally don't apply a hotfix unless I need the
specific functionality it covers. Service Packs are a different issue.
Those go in as soon as they are carefully tested.

Help?
sorry if im off topic.
I was trying to home network with windows XP, in order for me to shear Internet connection with other computers in the house. I have cable modem and its using USB port.. which makes my Ethernet adopter free.
I've tired contacting the Ethernet adapter to each computer (two computer) using a cat5 Ethernet cord.. but the local area connection show's unplugged..? there for i can't bridge
the computers?
am i missing something? You will need a cross-over ethernet cable to connect 2 PCs directly. You can use straight Cat5 cables if you have an ethernet hub/switch.

HELP: SSEE problems
I've a Windows 2003 Server Web Edition server. I've installed SSEE on
the same server. I've 5 domains (and 5 different web applications).
Every app needs to connect to 1 different db.
Both, with native securiy or Windows security, I obtain that only 1 app
work correctly while with the others I obtain "Application Server
Unavailable". If I connect all the apps to the same db then all works right.
Can someone hel me to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance,

Have you enabled network protocols for SQL Express? By default they will be
disabled, but that can be overridden when you install SQL Express or later
using SQL Server Configuration Manager see

HELP: SQL Server Service can't start up!
I installed SQL Server 2000 on a PC which is on a domain "DOMAIN" and it
uses Windows XP Professional. I used Windows Authentication Mode (instead of
Mixed-Mode). SQL Server 2000 starts up successfully.
Then I installed on a standalone PC which is part of a workgroup "WORKGROUP"
(instead of a domain) and it uses Windows XP Professional. I selected
Windows Authentication Mode. There was a dialog for me to enter my login
details and it already had fields entered, eg:
Username: Owner
Password: <BLANK>
Domain: WORKGROUP
This standalone PC only has one user account "Owner" which is bounded to the
Administrator (the 1st account Windows XP creates for you). The password for
this account is blank. The installation process was successful. But when SQL
Server Service Manager tried to start my SQL Server, it says login failure.
Just wondering, does SQL Server 2000 doesn't like blank passwords and
auto-fails immediately? Or does it have to be on a domain? I cannot use
Mixed-Mode as my development application doesn't work with Mixed-Mode.

Test it by giving the local user account a password an restart the sql

I'm only a novice in this field - but I had what appears to be the same
problem a few weeks back, where my SQL server service was logging in with
Windows authentication that wasn't the primary admin account (although it had
admin access). Anyway - due to a network enforced user login password
rotation - I had to change the login password and forgot that the SQL server
service was still associated with the older password. So the SQL server
service wasn't starting...login failure. As I was doing other work at the
time on the server it took a little while (longer than it should have ;-P) to
consider that it was the password change that stuffed the service startup. I
changed the authentication of the service to use the real admin
authentication (which remains outside of the network password rotation
scheme/policy) and the server services have started fine everytime since.

HELP: Linked SQL servers issue - cannot call ServerName.Database.dbo.TableName
We recently upgraded our production SQL Server to SQL Server 64-bit

We have linked servers.
The problem is all the stored procedures fail as well as T-SQL
commands in SQL Query Analyzer because we may no longer call the

WHERE LRSN=34534534
OPENQUERY WORKS:
SELECT ISNULL(SUM(CAST(Reproduction_Cost1 AS money)), 0)
FROM
OPENQUERY(SERVER2, 'SELECT * FROM DATABASE2.dbo.TABLE2 WHERE
LRSN=34534534')
The failure message is:
Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

give any information about the error.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB'

HELP: How to delete a user from Reporting Services?
I have the following problem.
The system setup is as follows.
IIS and sqlserver are on the same server and I'm using windows integrated
security.
I initially created a windows login user (userA).
I then in the reporting services(RS) admin area, set the security permissions
for a directory(Dir1). The permissions were, userA is a member of the
browser role and the directory was set to the browser role.
Everything worked as it should at that point.
I then wanted to delete userA from the server. So i delete userA from the
'local users and groups' admin area in the control panel on the server.
This is when I started to have problems.
When I go back into RS to administor permissions, I tried to ammend the
'browser role' permissions for Dir1. When I try to save the changes the
following error is displayed.
'The user or group name 'userA' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName) '
Its seems that userA is still registered in RS.
Logically I understand why, I've only deleted userA from windows, not from RS.
My question is , How do I completely delete userA from RS.
I noticed a users table in the RS database but there are numerous other
tables which could have entries refering to userA.
Is there a way to be sure all references to userA are deleted.
The only way I could get round this was to re-generate userA as a windows
user and disable it.
This is not an ideal solution as I do not wish to have numerous disabled
windows login users.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.comSounds like you would have to delete userA from the folders on RS, then
delete the user profile. If possible, use a security group instead of
assigning individually.

If possible, use a security group instead of
assigning individually.

then add users (in my case domain users) to the group. I then assign a role
to that local group.

help: a problem to add a login in sql server
Hello,
I am trying to add a login for a Window NT user
in the SQL server but getting following error messages
Error 15401: Windows NT user or group '%s' not found.
Check the name again.
I have checked all the setting in the domain and could not
find anything wrong.
Plese some one can tell me what should I do to fix it.
Thanks
KarenHave had similar problem. Three times in one year. Some advice I've
received was check PDC & BDC sync, verify upper & lower case, but what
seemed to work for me was to reboot the server. I know this is sometimes
unacceptable, but sometimes it works.
You can do a google search also.
