Here is one more failure that I can not get by . . .

This error continues to occur even after a couple of uninstalls and re-installs, only to result in the same error. I can send the logs if you like, but they are large, so this is the short popup I am getting: ( I can't paste the message, but here is the text:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error: The error code is 2331. Error loading library C\program files\microsoft SQL Server ... sqlca.dll or finding entry point. The specified module could not be found.

Here is a better message out of the event log:

Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Notification Services -- Error 2331. The installer has encountered an unexpected error. The error code is 2331. Error loading library C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Bin\{37E9AD9F-3217-4229-B5A5-7A0C82364C6C}sqlca.dll or finding entry point The specified module could not be found.

Any help would be appreciated. Also, XP Pro SP2. Fresh install, no betas, clean box, not upgrade. Thanks in advance for ANY help! Rick

Are you installing from CD, network share, or locally? If you are installing from network share or locally, ensure all binaries are copied from the CD or original source.

Hi Peter,

Yes, this install, as were the other ones, from the original CD. According to the log file everything was copied or at least let me say, I could not find this object missing. It looks like a registration problem, but I can not fingure out how to go any furture.

Hi,

did you manage to solve this problem? I've got exactly the same issue with SQL Server 2005 Express. I try to install it on WindowsXP SP2 with all recent updates installed and I end always with this 2331 error connected to SQLCA.DLL library.

Hello,

I came across couple of threads on this issue but unfortunately they were found to be no-repro issues.

Incase you this issue is not resolved yet, try uninstalling "SQL Setup Support Files" mannually through "Add Remove Programs" and reinstall as you did before failure. If you still see the failure, send us the log file for the failed MSI from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\log\Files (usually the latest at the time of error).

Let us know.

Thanks

I'm having the same issue...

Did you succeed to install SQL 2005 Express?

|||Can you confirm in your instance if the file exists? If it does, can you report the version?|||

Hi,

I've resolved this problem on my machine. Solution was simple: I had to unistall all SQL Server Express components and manually delete \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder with all contents. After that I was able to install it again without further problems.

Please, remember befor trying this, that in \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1 folder you may have existing database files, which should be copied before deleting this folder.

greetings

Tomasz
